India is emerging as a global leader in Agentic Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption, with over 80% of businesses actively exploring the development of autonomous agents, according to Deloitte's State of Generative AI (Fourth Wave) report. Autonomous agents are AI systems that operate independently to achieve specific goals without continuous human intervention. The report highlights a rising focus on multi-agent workflows, where sub-agents work under a master agent’s supervision to execute goal-oriented tasks. Notably, 50% of Indian enterprises have identified these workflows as a key priority, while 70% of firms are leveraging Generative AI (GenAI) for automation, with more than half conducting over ten GenAI experiments.
Despite this progress, challenges such as AI-generated errors (36%), bias and hallucinations (30%), and data quality concerns (30%) continue to hinder large-scale deployment. Additionally, 28% of businesses fear their AI solutions may become outdated within two years due to reliance on off-the-shelf models. However, Indian enterprises remain optimistic about overcoming these hurdles through strategic investments in scalable AI ecosystems and agile innovation frameworks. Strengthening AI governance and ensuring adaptability will be crucial for maintaining India’s leadership in this rapidly evolving field.
