India, New Zealand decide to enhance depth of engagement in key areas

On Tuesday India and New Zealand brought a review of the bilateral ties and planned to strengthen their engagement in areas like cybersecurity, climate change, defence, security, and counter-terrorism.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that the meeting was conducted under the guidance of India-New Zealand foreign office consultations, where both the parties discussed on accessing matters related to vaccines and medicines to overcome the global coronavirus pandemic.

Both sides expressed ideas on various regional issues and echoed the significance of stronger association for a better implementation of ideas.

According to the MEA, "The discussion evaluated the current bilateral cooperation and both the parties discussed ideas to boost their engagement in various areas including cybersecurity, disarmament, climate change, defence, security, counterterrorism, trade, investment and space.”

It said in a statement, “coordination in multilateral and regional discussions were also carried out in the meeting."

Ms. Riva Ganguly Das, Secretary (East) in the MEA led the Indian delegation at the third Foreign Office Consultations.

Mr. Mark Sinclair, Deputy Secretary, Americas and Asia Group, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, led the New Zealand delegation.

In February 2019, the previous round of discussions took place.

The MEA stated that the discussion was held in a cordial manner where both parties agreed for the next consultations at a mutually convenient date.
