India and New Zealand are entering a new phase of bilateral engagement, with the India-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (FTA) creating opportunities across trade, investment, technology, agriculture and strategic cooperation. The agreement aims to strengthen commercial relations between the two countries by expanding market access, strengthening supply chains, facilitating investment and promoting skills and technology exchange. Under the agreement, Indian exports receive immediate zero-duty access in New Zealand across all 8,284 product lines, offering Indian exporters opportunities to improve price competitiveness, diversify overseas markets and strengthen their presence in a developed economy. The broader Strategic Partnership, supported by the 'Roadmap to 2030', provides a long-term framework for cooperation and aims to build a more diversified and resilient economic relationship.

Labour-intensive and manufacturing-oriented sectors, including pharmaceuticals, textiles, engineering goods, machinery, gems and jewellery, sports goods, footwear and leather products, are among those expected to benefit from improved market access. The agreement also creates opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), artisans and women entrepreneurs by supporting international market access, reducing trade-related constraints and encouraging stronger business-to-business engagement. The FTA's strategic framework envisages bilateral merchandise trade reaching approximately Rs. 28,515 crore (US$ 3 billion) by 2030. The agreement is also expected to support entrepreneurs, farmers and young professionals in both countries through wider commercial opportunities and cooperation. Effective implementation, greater business participation and sustained growth across sectors will be important to achieving the trade target and strengthening the bilateral partnership.
