India Records Over 1.5 Crore Domestic Air Passengers in a Single Month: Mr. Ram Mohan Naidu

India has recorded over 1.5 crore domestic air passengers in a single month, according to Union Minister of Civil Aviation Mr. Ram Mohan Naidu. Further, shared a video message on social media on October 20, 2026, to mark the International Day of the Air Traffic Controller. In the message, he extended greetings to Air Traffic Control personnel gathered in Chennai, recognising their vital role in keeping India’s skies safe. Highlighting the growth of the aviation sector, Mr. Ram Mohan Naidu noted that more than 5,000 domestic and over 1,000 international air traffic movements take place every day. He also emphasised India’s ambition to increase passenger traffic from 24 crore to 130 crore by 2047.

Mr. Ram Mohan Naidu said technology can assist, but it cannot guarantee safety on its own. Judgement, composure and responsibility, he said, will always remain human. In his statement further, stated that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has earmarked Rs. 3,490 crore (US$ 368.50 million) for modernising infrastructure. This includes Rs. 1,532 crore (US$ 161.76 million) for the automation of the air traffic management system. As India’s aviation sector continues to expand, Air Traffic Controllers will play a pivotal role in managing increasing air traffic and ensuring safe and efficient aircraft movement, he added. Their work will also help strengthen the foundation for a safer, smarter and more connected aviation future.
