India Rises as a Global Medical Travel Destination

India is gradually growing into a prominent Medical Value Travel (MVT) country, driven by firm policy backing, robust quality systems, and a highly integrated and connected healthcare landscape, as asserted and agreed upon by the Ministry of Ayush. India indeed holds a promise of world-class medical care, highly qualified and experienced professionals, and affordable medical care, along with traditional wellness therapies such as Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy. Addressing a virtual gathering of ONE health professionals and experts during the ONE Earth ONE Health – Advantage Healthcare India program, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi asserted how medical value travel and health mobility of a workforce are extremely important for a healthy and robust Earth. India’s holistic approach toward health care, with greater emphasis on preventive and promotive health, is becoming increasingly attractive to global health travellers with health conditions such as lifestyle and stress-related disorders.
With the aim of raising trust and standardization globally in the segment, the Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, announced the Ayush Quality Mark in December 2025 for the development and formulation of an international standard for quality in Ayush Products and Ayush Services. The Government has now designed a dedicated Ayush Visa for the ease of accessing Ayush treatments for international citizens. The statistics depict the momentum and rising trends in the segment, with the number of international patients receiving treatments in India escalating. With the formulation and implementation of policies such as 100% Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Medical Infrastructure, Enhanced Ayush Insurance, and alignment with International Standardization, such as ISO 22525, the Medical Value Travel (MVT) Scene in India is moving from being a cost advantage to a trusted and holistic platform for the citizens and patients globally.
