India’s agricultural and processed food products exports touched USD 21.5 billion in Apr–Feb 2021-22

Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has written a new success story by attaining 90% of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry's export objective for FY22.

In the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, APEDA successfully exported agricultural and processed food items worth US$ 21.5 billion, putting it on track to meet the annual export target of US$ 23.71 billion for 2021-22. This comes at a time when India has already surpassed its ambitious goal of US$ 400 billion in goods exports in the current fiscal year, nine days ahead of schedule. APEDA has contributed to more than 5% in achieving that goal.

APEDA has so far reached 91% of its US$ 8.67 billion rice export target, which is its highest forex earner. The export of other cereals has jumped to 105% of the export target of US$ 847 million.

In the area of fruits and vegetables (F&V), APEDA has exported F&V worth US$ 2.5 billion, or 75% of the target of US$ 3.05 billion until February.

Exports of cereal preparations and miscellaneous processed items totaled US$ 2.04 billion, accounting for 89% of the USD 2.10 billion export target set for February, while exports of meat, dairy, and products totaled US$ 3.77 billion, accounting for 82% of the US$ 4.21 billion export target.

During April-January 2021-22, wheat exports increased by 66% to US$ 1.74 billion.

APEDA arranged a series of flag off ceremonies throughout the year to promote the export of unique Geographical Identification (GI) certified products such as Dahanu Gholvad Chikoo, Jalgaon Banana, and Marathwada Kesar, which were procured from Maharashtra farmers and exported for the first time. APEDA permitted the first shipment of Leteku (Burmese Grape), a vitamin C and iron-rich fruit, from Guwahati to Dubai, as well as fresh jackfruit from Tripura to the United Kingdom and Germany via Guwahati.
