According to the ' Building Materials Sector- Talent Trends and Insights ' report by staffing firm Ciel HR, India's building materials sector is witnessing a surge in hiring, driven by rapid urbanisation, infrastructure growth, and industrial development. Recruitment in the sector rose by 30% between January 2023 and January 2025. As per the report, rising disposable incomes are expected further to propel construction, urban development, and real estate, thereby boosting the building materials industry. The sector currently employs over 5.5 lakh professionals across the country.
Based on inputs from 105 building material companies and 2,763 job listings across platforms, the study also highlights the increasing demand for talent skilled in advanced technologies such as 3D printing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT). Companies actively seek professionals in material science, sustainability, green certifications, and lifecycle analysis, signaling a move towards tech-driven and environmentally responsible operations. High-demand roles include Plant Manager, Production Manager, Supply Chain Manager, Sales Manager, Environment and Sustainability Specialist, Design Engineer, Research and Development Engineer, Quality Control, Structural Engineer, and Safety Engineer. Despite the growth, the sector continues to face a gender gap, with women making up just 12% of the workforce—among the lowest across key industries. Furthermore, hiring is heavily concentrated in Tier I cities, with 81% of openings located in metros such as Hyderabad (14%), Bengaluru (13%), Delhi/National Capital Region (12%), Chennai (8%), Ahmedabad (7%), and Pune (7%), which are expected to remain the key hubs for recruitment.
