India's coal production to touch one billion tonnes next fiscal, Government informs Parliament

Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Coals and Mines, Mr. Prahlad Joshi informed Parliament that India's coal production will touch one billion tonnes in the next financial year from 900 million tonnes this year, in order to stop the imports of thermal coal.

He further informed that India’s domestic coal requirement will reach 1,500 million tonnes by 2030 and to meet this requirement, the country should scale up its production.

The coal demand of 1,500 million tonnes per annum by 2030 is projected by several agencies and as per those projections, coal mines are planned, and their operations are also being run to ensure the country’s energy security, along with the development of new mines which is required towards Atmanirbhar Bharat to reduce import dependence.

Mr. Prahlad Joshi, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Coals and Mines also stated that from 2024-25, India will stop the import of thermal coal.
