Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi stated that India's Covid vaccination campaign is science-driven and people-powered, and that the country is in a far better position to fight the deadly virus, but that people must continue taking all precautions.

He stated that today marks an important moment in India's attempts to vaccinate its citizens, as children aged 12 to 14 are now eligible for vaccines, while elderly aged 60 and up are eligible for precaution doses.

Vaccination was offered to people over 60 and those over 45 with comorbidities in March 2021.  Later, the vaccination became available to anybody above the age of 18.

He stated that the fact that vaccines are available for free should make every Indian proud.

Over 180 crore doses have been provided in India, with over 9 crore doses in the 15-17 age group and over 2 crore precaution doses.
