India’s digital economy is witnessing a transformative shift powered by the rapid rise of its creator economy, as highlighted in an upcoming BCG report titled "From Content to Commerce: Mapping India’s Creator Economy." Set to launch at WAVES 2025 in Mumbai, the report reveals that over 2 to 2.5 million digital creators are currently shaping more than Rs. 29,60,300 crore (US$ 350 billion) in annual consumer spending — a figure projected to exceed Rs. 84,58,000 crore (US$ 1 trillion) by 2030. Despite this massive influence, only 8–10% of creators effectively monetize their content today, indicating vast untapped potential. Direct revenues from the ecosystem, currently valued at Rs. 1,69,160 - 2,11,450 crore (US$ 20–25 billion), are expected to grow fivefold by the end of the decade.
Key findings underscore the growing mainstream appeal of the creator economy, with content consumption expanding beyond Gen Z and metros into wider demographics and regions. Short-form videos dominate, especially in genres like comedy, fashion, and entertainment. Brands are adapting by investing in faster, more flexible, and diversified creator-led campaigns and exploring new monetization models such as live commerce, subscriptions, and virtual gifting. With brand investments in creator marketing projected to increase up to threefold, India is poised for a dynamic shift in how digital content, commerce, and consumer engagement converge. WAVES 2025 also reflects this momentum, hosting discussions on AI, social media, and the AVGC sector as India’s digital media presence rapidly evolves.
