The Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi expressed confidence that India’s dream of ‘techade’ will be fulfilled on the strength of its innovators and said that the domestic patent filings have outscored the country's foreign patent filings. He added that this signifies the country's increasing scientific capabilities.
The Prime Minister previously used ‘techade’ to describe the decade being dominated by technologies and India making the most of it.
He said India's rank in the patent filling is 7th globally while it is 5th in trademark registration. India's patent registration has risen by 50% in the last five years, he added, noting that India’s ranking in the global innovation index has surged to 40 from below 80 in 2015.
Mr. Narendra Modi said that the premier Indian Institute of Science had 145 patents in 2022 which is a rare record and also informed that the total number of Ramsar sites, an international recognition for wetlands, in the country has increased to 75 from 26 in 2014.
He stated that local communities deserve praise for preserving biodiversity. The use of technologies and start-ups have made India a ‘global recycling hub’, the Prime Minister said.
Further, he also cited several other developments in the country like the rising acceptance of Yoga and Millets, the book- ‘India- The Mother of Democracy’, the old-age culture of India, etc.
