India's electronics exports surge 11-fold to US$ 47.98 billion, women's workforce nears 30%

India’s electronics exports have surged more than 11-fold to Rs. 4.24 lakh crore (US$ 47.98 billion) in FY2025-26, with women accounting for nearly 30% of the workforce in the broader electronics manufacturing ecosystem. The sector’s growth has been supported by initiatives including the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) and Modified Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC 2.0). Electronic goods have emerged as India’s third-largest export category, with exports increasing from Rs. 38,000 crore (US$ 6.21 billion) in FY2014-15 to Rs. 4.24 lakh crore (US$ 47.98 billion) in FY2025-26. India has also become the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer, with mobile phones moving from the 153rd-largest export item in FY2014-15 to the country’s largest export product in FY2025-26. Electronics production increased from Rs. 18,000 crore (US$ 2.94 billion) in FY2014-15 to Rs. 6.27 lakh crore (US$ 70.95 billion) in FY2025-26, reflecting the expansion of domestic manufacturing capabilities.
Mobile phone exports recorded a 165-fold increase, rising from Rs. 1,500 crore (US$ 245.30 million) in FY2014-15 to Rs. 2.59 lakh crore (US$ 29.30 billion) in FY2025-26, while the sector generated around 12 lakh jobs. Women account for nearly 70% of the workforce in mobile manufacturing, highlighting the sector’s growing role in women’s employment. India’s digital economy now contributes up to 14% of GDP, supported by wider digital connectivity and declining data costs. Internet subscribers increased from 25.15 crore in 2014 to more than 109.2 crore by March 2026, while wireless data costs declined from Rs. 308 per GB (US$ 5.04) in 2014 to Rs. 7.51 per GB (US$ 0.08) in 2026. Average mobile broadband download speed rose from 13.67 Mbps in March 2022 to 132.00 Mbps in December 2025. 5G services are now available in 99.9% of districts across States and Union Territories, with 5.63 lakh 5G Base Transceiver Stations as of June 2026, while 4G services cover 6.31 lakh villages.
