Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi met Netflix Co-Chief Executive Officer Mr. Ted Sarandos in New Delhi to discuss the growing potential of India's media and entertainment sector and opportunities to strengthen the country's position as a global hub for content creation. Highlighting India's rich storytelling tradition and vast creative talent, the discussions focused on expanding the global reach of Indian content and supporting the growth of the creative economy. To mark its tenth anniversary in India, Netflix announced the Netflix India Storytelling Initiative, which will invest in nurturing the next generation of creative professionals through skilling and education partnerships with the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC). The initiative is expected to strengthen India's content creation ecosystem while enhancing global recognition for Indian stories and talent.
Separately, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Tourism partnered with Netflix India to promote India's cultural heritage and tourism through authentic storytelling. Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Mr. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat launched the 'As Seen on Netflix' section on the Incredible India portal, enabling global audiences to explore the real-life locations, cultural traditions and experiences featured in Netflix India's films and series. The collaboration aims to encourage cultural tourism, showcase India's diverse heritage and support the expansion of the country's creative economy. These initiatives are expected to strengthen India's global cultural presence, promote tourism, generate opportunities for creators and reinforce the country's position as a leading destination for storytelling, media and entertainment.
