India’s finished steel exports recorded strong growth during the first eleven months of the financial year due to improving global demand and stronger domestic production capacity. Provisional government data shows that finished steel exports reached 6.02 million metric tonnes, which represents a 36.6% increase compared to the previous year during the period from April to February. The surge demonstrates that India has strengthened its position in worldwide steel markets while domestic steel manufacturers have become more competitive. India currently ranks as the world’s second-largest crude steel producer, supported by rising demand from infrastructure, construction, and manufacturing sectors. The strong export performance demonstrates that international markets have increased their demand for Indian steel products while domestic steel manufacturers have become more competitive through their expanded production capabilities.
The data shows that trade patterns in the industry have begun to change. The finished steel imports experienced a severe drop of 37.4% from the previous year, which resulted in 5.6 million metric tonnes imported during that period. India produced 153.61 million metric tonnes of crude steel, which represented an 11.2% increase. The domestic consumption of finished steel in India increased by 7.2%, which brought the total to 147.7 million metric tonnes. The trends demonstrate strong business activity in vital industries that consume steel, including construction and infrastructure development and engineering sectors. The steel sector in India has proven its ability to withstand international market fluctuations through its combined production, export, and domestic consumption growth. The results demonstrate how the industry now plays a vital role in driving industrial development and export growth while establishing India as a major force in the worldwide steel supply chain.
