India’s food processing sector is projected to become a Rs. 57 lakh crore (US$ 600 billion) industry by 2030, driven by higher value addition, innovation, technology adoption and export-led growth, according to a joint report by FICCI and Deloitte. Launched during FICCI Foodworld India 2026, the report highlights the sector’s transition from a supply-led, volume-driven ecosystem to a consumer-centric, value-driven growth model. It estimates that the processed food market alone could expand significantly by 2030, supported by greater food processing, stronger value-added manufacturing, wider distribution networks and enhanced export competitiveness. With only 12-13% of India’s food output currently being processed, the report underscores significant opportunities to increase value addition and strengthen the country's global food processing industry.

The report also highlights evolving consumer preferences towards healthier, convenient and premium food products, with the health and functional foods segment growing at an annual rate of 15-20%, nearly twice the pace of the broader food market. Speaking at the event, Andhra Pradesh Industries, Commerce and Food Processing Minister Mr. T.G. Bharath announced the state's target of attracting Rs. 30,000 crore (US$ 3.16 billion) in investments and generating over three lakh jobs in the food processing sector by 2029. Food Processing Industries Secretary Mr. Avinash Joshi also highlighted the Government’s plans to develop a ‘Bharat’ brand to promote Indian processed food products globally, with increased food processing expected to strengthen exports, improve value addition and enhance the competitiveness of India’s food industry.
