India’s gem and jewellery exports continued their growth trajectory in September 2026, with gross exports rising 9.43% in US dollar terms and 18.24% in rupee terms year-on-year to Rs. 28,157.55 crore (US$ 2.95 billion), compared to Rs. 23,813.91 crore (US$ 2.70 billion) in September 2025. For April-September 2026, gross exports reached Rs. 1.36 lakh crore (US$ 14.30 billion), growing 3.07% in US dollar terms and 13.40% in rupee terms. Mr. Kirit Bhansali, Chairman, GJEPC, said the numbers show exports continue to grow despite an uncertain global trade environment. Studded gold jewellery exports grew 31.31% in US dollar terms to Rs. 35,139.71 crore (US$ 3.69 billion), supported by improved trade access under the India-UK trade agreement, reduced US tariffs and strong performance in Hong Kong, Singapore and France.

Plain gold jewellery exports declined 8.81% to Rs. 24,126.58 crore (US$ 2.53 billion), as the sharp rise in gold prices and challenging demand in the Middle East weighed on the segment. Cut and polished diamond export volumes increased 4.64% to 83.98 lakh carats, while exports in value terms stood at Rs. 55,336.16 crore (US$ 5.81 billion), down 6.96% in US dollar terms but up 2.31% in rupee terms, signaling a gradual recovery. Polished lab-grown diamond exports grew 17.08% to Rs. 6,522.15 crore (US$ 685.10 million), while silver jewellery exports rose 23.10% to Rs. 6,908.90 crore (US$ 729.32 million). Mr. Kirit Bhansali said product innovation, value addition and market diversification will help sustain export growth in the coming months.
