In terms of median mobile speeds, India moved up three spots in the global rankings, from 59th in April to 56th in May 2023, according to the most recent information provided by internet testing company, Ookla.
According to Ookla, India also saw an increase in median mobile download speeds, going from 36.78 Mbps in April to 39.94 Mbps in May. Further, the country’s overall fixed median download speeds only slightly increased from 51.12 Mbps in April to 52.53 Mbps in May.
The most recent data speed statistics from Ookla for the Indian market come as the main two telcos in the nation, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, are deploying 5G networks quickly and aiming to reach the entire nation by the end of 2023.
Reliance Jio is investing in more base stations that work on multiple 5G bands (both 3.5 GHz and 700 MHz bands), as it chose the standalone (SA) model for its countrywide 5G rollout.
The data by Ookla shows that the UAE led the chart for overall global median mobile speeds.
