India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections increased by nearly 23% year-on-year to over Rs. 2.31 lakh crore (US$ 24.30 billion) in October 2026, reflecting robust domestic economic activity and a sharp rise in tax revenue from imports. According to provisional government data, GST revenue from domestic sales rose 15.8% year-on-year to over Rs. 1.59 lakh crore (US$ 16.73 billion), while revenue from imports surged 42.2% to Rs. 72,246 crore (US$ 7.60 billion). The increase in collections highlights growth in tax receipts from both domestic transactions and imported goods.

The gross GST collections comprised Central GST (CGST) of Rs. 42,935 crore (US$ 4.52 billion), State GST (SGST) of Rs. 51,340 crore (US$ 5.40 billion) and Integrated GST (IGST) of Rs. 1.37 lakh crore (US$ 14.41 billion). GST refunds increased 6.5% year-on-year to Rs. 27,934 crore (US$ 2.94 billion) during the month. After adjusting for refunds, net GST revenue rose 25.6% to Rs. 2.03 lakh crore (US$ 21.36 billion), compared with over Rs. 1.61 lakh crore (US$ 18.22 billion) in October last year. The growth in gross and net collections points to stronger tax revenue realisation, supported by domestic sales and import-related receipts.
