India’s hiring activity up 31% in December, led by consumer electronics, manufacturing: Report

India's hiring activity saw a 12% increase over the last six months, with a significant 31% YoY rise in recruitment in December, according to the Foundit Insights Tracker (FIT). The growth is widespread across sectors, with consumer electronics, manufacturing, and construction leading the way, showing YoY growth of 60%, 57%, and 57%, respectively. Artificial Intelligence (AI) jobs have seen a remarkable 42% growth over the past two years, reaching 2,53,000 positions, and this trend is expected to continue with a projected 14% growth in AI hiring in 2025. Key skills in demand include Python, AI/Machine Learning (ML), data science, deep learning, Structured Query Language (SQL), and expertise in AI frameworks like TensorFlow and PyTorch. 

The report highlights a surge in medical hiring driven by telemedicine, diagnostics, and specialized nursing, with healthcare analyst roles also seeing growth. Human resource (HR) and Admin roles increased by 21% in the last three months. Regarding geographic demand, all 13 monitored cities showed annual growth, with Coimbatore leading at 58% and Bengaluru and Chennai at 41% and 37%, respectively. Bengaluru, Pune, and Delhi/National Capital Region (NCR) were the top cities for AI hiring. In contrast, Tier-II and III cities accounted for 30% of healthcare job growth. This data underscores the adaptability of India's job market and the growing importance of AI in shaping the country's workforce.
