India’s largest home-built nuclear plant starts operations at full capacity: PM Mr. Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi announced that India's first indigenously produced 700 MW nuclear power facility in Gujarat's Kakrapar had begun full-scale operation. The Kakrapar Atomic Power Project (KAPP) reactor began commercial operation on June 30th, 2023, but has only reached 90% of its capacity as of now.

Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi posted the following on X,

“India achieves another milestone. The first largest indigenous 700 MWe Kakrapar Nuclear Power Plant Unit-3 in Gujarat starts operations at full capacity. Congratulations to our scientists and engineers”.

According to officials, various commissioning procedures were underway at KAPP 4, which had made 97.56% progress by July.

The NPCIL has approved financial and administrative sanctions in order to carry out its plan to construct 16,700 MW Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWRs) across the nation. Construction of 700 MW nuclear power stations is now underway in Rajasthan (Rajasthan Atomic Power Station (RAPS) 7 and 8) and Haryana (Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana (GHAVP) 1 and 2).
