India's tech industry to see a surge in women workforce, at 14.9% by 2027

India's technology sector is set for a transformative shift, with a growing focus on diversity and inclusion, driving increased female participation in the workforce. According to recruitment firm TeamLease Digital, women are expected to make up 14.9% of India's tech workforce by 2027, up from 10.8% in 2022. This 5.5% annual growth reflects a significant opportunity to narrow the gender gap in one of the world's fastest-growing industries. Currently, 1.92 million women contribute to the tech workforce, with rapid growth anticipated over the next three years. The rise of global capability centres (GCCs) is a key factor, with projections indicating that women will represent 35% of the workforce in these hubs by 2027.

The demand for skilled professionals in emerging tech fields is accelerating, with women making strides in high-growth domains. Data science, analytics, cybersecurity, cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and user experience (UX) design offer promising career paths for women. In data science, roles such as data scientists and machine learning engineers are in high demand as businesses focus on data-driven strategies. Similarly, the increasing complexity of cyber threats has spurred demand for female cybersecurity specialists, while cloud adoption is driving opportunities for women in roles like cloud architects and DevOps engineers. Women also take leadership positions in AI, ML, and UX/UI design, creating innovative solutions and enhancing digital experiences across industries. With such opportunities, women are poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of India's tech landscape.
