According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the number of active wireless (mobile) subscribers on the date of peak VLR in July 2026 stood at 1204.01 million, while 15.98 million subscribers submitted requests for Mobile Number Portability (MNP) during the month, with Zone-I and Zone-II accounting for 8.89 million and 7.09 million requests respectively. Total telephone subscribers in India rose from 1348.08 million at the end of June 2026 to 1354.28 million at the end of July 2026, registering a monthly growth rate of 0.46%, with overall tele-density increasing from 94.31% to 94.68% over the same period. Wireless (mobile plus FWA) subscribers grew from 1300.25 million to 1306.27 million, while wireline subscribers rose from 47.82 million to 48.01 million.
Total broadband subscribers increased from 1087.50 million to 1094.48 million, registering a monthly growth rate of 0.64%, with Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. leading with 535.12 million subscribers, followed by Bharti Airtel Ltd. at 384.23 million. The top five broadband service providers together held a 98.59% market share. M2M cellular mobile connections rose from 134.73 million to 137.70 million, with Bharti Airtel Limited holding the largest share at 61.33%. Urban tele-density stood at 154.12% and rural tele-density at 61.05%, with Delhi LSA recording the highest overall tele-density at 368.33% and Bihar LSA the lowest at 64.19%.
