India's Toy Exports Soar 89.1%, Reflecting Strong Growth in Domestic Manufacturing

India's toy industry has recorded significant progress in manufacturing, quality and exports, supported by a series of government initiatives aimed at strengthening domestic production and global competitiveness. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Mr. Jitin Prasada highlighted that toy exports increased by 89.1%, rising from Rs. 1,913.16 crore (US$ 203.5 million) in FY19 to Rs. 3,616.18 crore (US$ 384.7 million) in FY26, while toy imports declined by 37.5% from Rs. 3,494.01 crore (US$ 371.7 million) to Rs. 2,183.62 crore (US$ 232.3 million) during the same period. The 17th Toy Biz International Business-to-Business Exhibition, organised by the Toy Association of India, further showcased the sector's growing capabilities, bringing together 400 Indian toy brands, 100 international buyers from 40 countries and around 30,000 business visitors to promote domestic sales and expand export opportunities.

The Government has implemented a comprehensive National Action Plan for Toys, strengthened quality standards through the Quality Control Order and Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification, increased customs duties on imported toys, promoted cluster development and supported startups and exporters through initiatives such as Startup India and the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) scheme. India has also secured zero-duty market access for toys under several recent trade agreements, including those with the United Arab Emirates, Australia, the European Free Trade Association, Oman, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Reflecting the success of these measures, a BIS survey conducted in 2025 found that 95% of toy samples met prescribed quality standards, compared with 33% in 2019. These initiatives have strengthened India's position as a competitive global toy manufacturing and export hub while promoting innovation, quality and employment.
