According to the US Department of Agriculture, India will export a record 7 million tonnes in 2021-22 making a rare showing among the world's wheat-trade heavyweights, this season. This is more than double the previous season's total, making the country the ninth-largest shipper in the world. India’s exports are considered to be strong and its prices are considered competitive in Asian markets.
India is one among the world's leading producers of the grain, yet it rarely exports it. Surging prices among big shippers and export limits in Russia have boosted exports from India this season, with cargoes making inroads in neighbouring markets such as Bangladesh.
