According to the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), the year-on-year sugar production of India till December 15 increased by 5.1% over the previous year. In FY2022-23 (till December 15), the production of sugar is 82.1 lakh tonnes, while it was 77.9 lakh tonnes during the same period of previous year.
Maharashtra is leading with the production of 33 lakh tonnes of sugar, and it is followed by Uttar Pradesh with 20.3 lakh tonnes of sugar produced.
ISMA stated that the number of operating factories currently stood at 497 against 479 in the last year. In addition, it is also expected that the total sugar exports by the end of December could reach around 15 lakh tonnes.
