Union Health Minister Mr. Mansukh Mandaviya stated that during the global covid crisis, India distributed medications to 150 nations without raising the cost or lowering the standard of the medications at the inauguration of International Symposium on Health Technology Assessment. According to him, India is currently the only country in the world offering affordable medications, meeting 65% of the global demand for vaccines.
In a Keynote address at the 26th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) in Canberra, Australia, in January, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Mr. Harivansh Narayan Singh stated that India provided assistance to more than 150 affected countries during the pandemic in the form of vaccines, medical equipment, and medications. He added that India launched a unique effort called "Vaccine Maitri" to provide COVID-19 vaccines made in India to numerous nations around the globe. By the first week of December 2022, India has provided 101 nations and two UN agencies with more than 282 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine under this initiative. The Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 was revised by Parliament to allow for proper safety and protection of healthcare staff handling patients and the epidemic, he had added in reference to the actions done by the Indian government during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, to prevent food shortages and maintain stable commodity prices during a pandemic, the Essential Commodities Act of 1955 was revised. Under the Public Distribution System, these measures assisted in ensuring food security for vulnerable areas of the nation.
