India has received significant recognition from the world’s largest and most important trade show for organic products, BIOFACH 2026, where it was named the "Country of the Year." India was represented at this event, which was hosted in Nuremberg, Germany, by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), with its largest and most successful pavilion to date at 1,074 square metres, which is an increase of 50% in size compared to prior years. This high visibility for India has elevated it into the position as the largest non-European Union exhibitor at BIOFACH, and one of the top five exhibitors from around the world, demonstrating India's growth as a reputable supplier of high-quality organic products that are produced in compliance with international standards.
India and the European Union (EU) have just completed negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA). These negotiations have concluded, which should enhance trade and investment between the two countries as well as establish stronger supply chains that can withstand future disruptions. The pavilion has over 20 states represented, with India showcasing products such as organic rice, spices, oil seeds, herbs, and millets, with a total of 67 co-exhibitors, including Farmer-Producer Organizations (FPOs) and state government agencies. The pavilion will also provide attendees with opportunities for curated tastings of organic Basmati rice and creative culinary pairings to reflect India's agricultural heritage, while also building support for a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) on organic certification standards with the EU.
