President of India, Ms. Droupadi Murmu, has invited Slovakian businesses to join the “Make in India” programme, highlighting India as a shining example of progress in a world of uncertainties. Speaking at the Slovakia-India Business Forum, she underscored India’s aim to become a Rs. 4,30,75,000 crore (US$ 5 trillion) economy in the coming years, seeking partnerships with countries like Slovakia. She noted that Slovakia, with its strong industrial base and strategic European location, offers significant opportunities for enhanced trade and investment. She highlighted the automotive sector as a key link between the two nations, citing Tata Motors subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover’s substantial investment in Slovakia, including the state-of-the-art Nitra plant operational since 2018. This plant, producing models like the Land Rover Discovery and Defender, exemplifies Slovakia’s growing role in global automobile manufacturing and has been a remarkable success, employing over 4,400 people and manufacturing over 530,000 vehicles to date.

Her visit to the Nitra plant, which included a meeting with Indian staff, underscored the importance of the investment facilitated by the Slovakian government with Rs. 1,219 crore (€ 125 million) in aid. The plant, covering 3,00,000 square metres, is at Slovakia's forefront of aluminium manufacturing and engineering. The visit also highlighted the future electrification strategy, with plans to produce at least one electric vehicle from each JLR model by the decade's end. The Defender, produced exclusively at the Nitra plant and exported globally, further strengthens the economic partnership between India and Slovakia.
