India will present its trade policy achievements and economic reforms during its 8th Trade Policy Review (TPR) at the World Trade Organization (WTO), scheduled for 21 and 23 July 2026. The Indian delegation, led by Commerce Secretary Mr. Rajesh Agarwal, will participate in the review, which covers the period from 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2025. Conducted once every five years, the Trade Policy Review serves as an important transparency mechanism to assess members' trade policies and strengthen understanding among WTO members. Prepared through consultations involving more than 100 Ministries, Departments and Organisations over a 14-month period, India's Government Report highlights the country's strong economic recovery, sustained growth and resilient trade performance despite global uncertainties. During the review period, India's total merchandise and services exports reached a record US$ 863.1 billion (Rs. 81.13 lakh crore) in FY26, registering a 6.3% increase over US$ 676.5 billion (Rs. 63.59 lakh crore) recorded in FY22.

The Government Report and the WTO Secretariat Report recognise India's progress in strengthening trade competitiveness through Free Trade Agreements, rationalisation of the Goods and Services Tax structure and the adoption of digital initiatives such as the Unified Payments Interface and digital trade facilitation tools. Reflecting the growing global interest in India's expanding economy, WTO members submitted more than 900 questions covering areas such as digitisation, micro, small and medium enterprises, women's economic participation, Viksit Bharat and the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, while over 40 WTO members are expected to deliver statements during the review. The engagement provides an opportunity for India to showcase its policy reforms, reinforce its commitment to transparent and rules-based international trade, strengthen global economic partnerships and enhance investor confidence in the country's rapidly expanding trade and investment ecosystem.
