India Stands in Global Spotlight for Driving Renewable Energy Transition

India’s position at the forefront of the global clean energy transition was reiterated at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2026 in Davos, with Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Mr. Pralhad Joshi emphasizing the country’s strategy of achieving growth at scale while keeping it affordable and sustainable. During high-level interactions, such as meetings with World Economic Forum President and CEO Mr. Børge Brende, the Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Mr. Pralhad Joshi, emphasized the need for global cooperation and the role of multilateral frameworks and continuous dialogue between governments and the corporate sector in promoting sustainable development. The Indian experience in developing the decentralized renewable energy sector, including rooftop solar, agricultural solutions, and mini grids, was presented in a roundtable discussion at the WEF meeting, especially in the context of a scalable solution for the Global South. 
Mentioning the importance of Indian states in the energy transition, the Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Mr. Pralhad Joshi, said that reform-minded states are implementing national policy on the ground, with Madhya Pradesh being a shining example in utility-scale renewable energy, low-cost solar energy, and globally competitive green hydrogen prices. The Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Mr. Pralhad Joshi, stressed that implementation, and not ambition or investment, is the current global challenge. On the sidelines of WEF 2026, meetings with international energy companies centered on scaling renewables, building carbon markets, climate finance, energy storage, and green fuels. India also reaffirmed its commitment to harnessing Artificial Intelligence in the energy sector to enhance forecasting, minimize losses, and improve the reliability of the grid, making the country a trusted clean energy manufacturing and investment destination on the way to Viksit Bharat 2047.
