India stands united to overcome global challenges; focus on Swadeshi and Atmanirbhar Bharat essential: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Piyush Goyal

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Piyush Goyal, while addressing the 56th Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) India National Awards, said that no matter how big the global challenge, India stands united as a nation and has the strength to overcome crises. He urged businesses to focus on swadeshi products to strengthen both growth and financial security, noting that export controls and supply restrictions by other countries pose risks that underline the importance of Atmanirbhar Bharat. Recalling Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s Independence Day call for swadeshi and innovation, he stressed that India’s 1.4 billion people and enterprises must focus on Made in India products and reduce import dependence. President Ms. Droupadi Murmu graced the event as the Chief Guest, highlighting the role of engineering exports in strengthening India’s economy and global standing.
He underlined that trade and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector form the backbone of Indian business and that self-confidence will ensure India continues to grow without bowing to external pressures. He recalled that engineering exports had grown from Rs. 88 crore (US$ 10 million) in 1955 to over Rs. 10,21,148 crore (US$ 116 billion) today (2025), with greater progress expected in the coming years. He reiterated India’s commitment to quality through the Zero Defect, Zero Effect motto, stressing sustainability and global trust as key pillars. He noted that under Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s leadership, India has risen from a fragile economy to one of the top five economies globally, achieving 7.8% Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth in the last quarter. With Goods and Service Tax (GST) rate cuts, infrastructure investment, and strong domestic demand, he said no force can stop India from becoming a world power. He concluded by calling for inclusive growth and ensuring the benefits of reforms reach every citizen.
