Minister of State for Defence, Mr. Sanjay Seth, on Tuesday, announced that the Central Government had set a target of Rs. 3,00,000 crore (US$ 35.09 billion) in defence exports by 2029. Addressing the media, he stated that India, once seen globally as an importer, is now exporting defence equipment to at least 92 countries, thanks to the leadership of Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. He noted that in the past 11 years, the government has uplifted over 27 crore people from poverty and facilitated a shift to digital payments, reducing reliance on cash.
He further highlighted key infrastructure achievements, including the daily construction of 34 km of National Highways and the near-complete road connectivity of villages. He said that naxalism has declined by 90% due to increased employment and availability of Mudra loans supporting startups. He also credited Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s vision for India’s economic rise, stating that the country has overtaken Japan to become the fourth-largest economy. He added that many economists expect India to surpass Germany by 2027, positioning it as the world’s third-largest economy.
