Vice-President of Data Sciences and Analytics at GE Aerospace, Mr. Dinakar Deshmukh, highlighted the pivotal role of the data science and engineering teams in Bengaluru in developing GE's digital twin concept. The advent of generative AI, particularly with OpenAI's ChatGPT launch in November 2022, has significantly impacted GE Aerospace's approach to AI integration. He noted that while the rapid rise of generative AI brought concerns about intellectual property leakage, it also unlocked substantial business value. GE Aerospace responded by creating AI Wingmate, a customised generative AI assistant designed to enhance productivity and customer service while safeguarding proprietary information.

He emphasised the transformational impact of AI on engine health monitoring, enabling significant improvements in lead time, failure detection, and false positives. The India team, which is based at the John F. Welch Technology Centre (JFWTC) in Bengaluru, has been instrumental in driving these innovations. They have developed tools such as blade inspection technology and digital twins, which create virtual replicas of engines to monitor performance and predict maintenance needs. He highlighted that AI Wingmate, built in partnership with Microsoft, offers a secure, in-house alternative to ChatGPT, tailored to meet GE Aerospace's specific needs and protect its intellectual property.
