India is poised to surpass the US as the largest developer community on GitHub by 2027, as stated by Microsoft's chairman and CEO, Mr. Satya Nadella, at the Microsoft AI Tour in Bengaluru. With 13.2 million developers currently on GitHub, India is the fastest-growing market on the platform. It holds the second-highest number of generative AI projects (GenAI) after the US, showcasing the significant contributions of India's developer community in innovating cutting-edge products and solutions. Mr. Nadella emphasized the transformative impact of AI on developers worldwide, including in India, applauding the community for leveraging technology to shape the future globally. Microsoft's commitment to democratizing tech skills includes expanding the 'Code Without Barriers' program to India, focusing on upskilling and certifying 75,000 women developers in 2024 to bridge the gender gap in the cloud, AI, and digital technology sectors.
Furthermore, Microsoft's recent skilling initiatives in India underscore its dedication to empowering individuals and organizations for success in the AI era. Through the ADVANTA(I)GE INDIA initiative, Microsoft aims to provide AI skilling opportunities to 2 million individuals in India by 2025. Initiatives like the 'AI Odyssey' program has already supported 100,000 developers in advancing their AI skills, with plans to expand to other Asian countries following a positive reception in India. These efforts align with Microsoft's broader mission to foster skill development and expertise in AI across diverse regions, promoting innovation and growth in the technology sector.
