Under the "Make in India" initiative, the Marhowrah Diesel Locomotive Factory in Bihar is set to export 150 Evolution Series ES43ACmi locomotives to Guinea for its Simandou iron ore project. Developed in partnership with Wabtec, this export deal is valued at over Rs. 3,000 crore (US$ 345.9 million) and significantly expands India’s global footprint in railway manufacturing. The delivery schedule spans three years: 37 locomotives in the current financial year, 82 in the next, and 31 in the third. Designed with Alternating Current (AC) propulsion and regenerative braking, each locomotive features a single AC cab, ergonomic crew amenities, and advanced control systems, ensuring they can efficiently haul 100-wagon loads at maximum permissible speed.

The Marhowrah facility, equipped with broad, standard, and Cape gauge tracks, supports diverse international specifications and testing. Secured through global competitive bidding, the project exemplifies India's industrial excellence. These 4,500 Horsepower (HP) locomotives incorporate modular architecture, microprocessor controls, superior emissions compliance, and safety systems such as fire detection and Distributed Power Wireless Control System (DPWCS) for synchronised operations. Beyond enhancing India's export profile, the deal strengthens India-Africa cooperation and contributes to Guinea’s infrastructure development. The factory provides direct employment to 285 individuals, with over 1,200 benefiting indirectly. Across India, more than 2,100 people are employed through the joint venture, reinforcing the project's economic and technological impact.
