India to host 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12-13

India will host the 18th BRICS Summit on 12-13 September 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, bringing together leaders of BRICS member and partner countries along with outreach invitees. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India assumed the BRICS Chairship for 2026 on 1st January and has chosen the theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability" for its chairship, reflecting Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi's people-centric vision rooted in the principle of "Humanity First." Over the two-day summit, leaders are expected to discuss ways to deepen cooperation among BRICS countries on shared priorities, alongside exchanging views on regional and global developments of mutual interest.
India's year-long BRICS Chairship has seen an extensive programme of engagements, with more than 350 meetings and high-level interactions held across over 25 cities so far. These engagements have centred on strengthening the BRICS strategic partnership across its three broad pillars, political and security cooperation, economic and financial cooperation, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges, with a particular emphasis on business-to-business and people-to-people initiatives aimed at translating cooperation into practical, development-oriented outcomes. The upcoming summit will give leaders an opportunity to take stock of these initiatives and chart further direction for the grouping. India is a founding member of BRICS and has previously held the chairship in 2012, 2016 and 2021, making 2026 its fourth term leading the grouping, a year that also marks 20 years since BRICS' establishment.
