On Tuesday, the International Energy Forum (IEF) stated that India plans to host the 9th Asian Ministerial Energy Roundtable (AMER9) in 2022.

The expected date would be announced later for the 9th Asian Ministerial Energy Roundtable. The event planned for the next year would take forward the discussions from the previous meeting in 2018, which was co-hosted by India in Abu Dhabi. The previous meeting was focused in the area of global energy security.

As per the IEF, post an online discussion between IEF Secretary-General Mr. Joseph McMonigle and Oil Minister, Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan, India decided to host the 9th roundtable.

The discussion was also attended by key stakeholders including Chief executive officers of Hindustan Petroleum Corp, Indian Oil Corp, Bharat Petroleum, in addition to senior officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

As per the statement, "The meeting covered the IEF agenda of actions, energy markets and the revival of the global economy from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.”

Both the sides agreed to continue their institutional alliance regularly and decided to consider a new proposal drafted by the IEF to boost bilateral ties.

Mr. McMonigle said, "We applaud India's determination to host the Asian Ministerial Energy Roundtable in 2022. This explains the significance of the IEF as a neutral platform to organize the world's energy powers and boost discussion to balance the prospects of energy market applicants.”

He added that over the next two decades, India is projected to have the biggest share of energy demand growth, as compared to any country globally. "So, their conclusions on energy and the transition will be essential in establishing the future of climate change and energy markets.”

Mr. Pradhan said India values the role of the IEF as a distinctive, neutral body of energy manufacturers and consumers.

"We conducted consultations on global transition and oil markets, and I expressed our concern on increasing crude prices and its impact on the global economic recovery and the demand for price constancy.”

The International Energy Forum (IEF) is an energy firm with 71 member countries, accounting for 90% of the global energy market. It conducts energy discussions promoting energy security, market strength and openness in the shift to a sustainable and inclusive future.
