CGIAR and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) announced on October 30, 2026, that New Delhi will host the CGIAR Science and Partnership Week from April 12 to 17, 2027. Over 5,000 delegates are expected to attend. The event is organised by CGIAR and by ICAR, which works under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. It will bring together researchers, farmers, governments, startups and businesses. ICAR leads one of the world’s largest national agricultural research systems, and its scientists have worked with CGIAR for more than 50 years. Ten CGIAR research centres operate in India, working on crops, water, livestock, fish, nutrition and policy.
India’s agricultural science also reaches beyond its borders. A groundnut sample conserved and shared by the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) has contributed to varieties now grown in Malawi, Uganda, Mozambique and Zambia. Secretary (DARE) and Director General (ICAR) Dr. Mangi Lal Jat stated that India’s priority would be to promote South-South cooperation and share its agricultural innovations with the Global South, particularly African countries. Climate-resilient agriculture, digital agriculture and AgriStack, mechanisation, millets and natural farming were highlighted as key areas for international collaboration. Executive Managing Director of CGIAR Dr. Ismahane Elouafi noted that the event will celebrate the longstanding partnership while developing a forward-looking agenda for the next 50 years of agricultural cooperation. Director General of ICRISAT Dr. Himanshu Pathak highlighted India’s journey from a food-deficit country to a major food producer and exporter, driven by science, technology and international partnerships.
