Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi said that India produces milk worth Rs. 8,50,000 crore (US$ 111.3 billion) annually, more than wheat and rice combined, and that small farmers benefit the most from the dairy industry.

The Prime Minister was speaking to a crowd at Diyodar, Banaskantha district, after inaugurating the Banas Dairy's new dairy complex and potato processing factory.

Addressing women dairy farmers on the occasion, Mr. Modi said that Banas Dairy was an example of how a cooperative movement can boost a village's economy while also empowering women, bolstering the "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" campaign.

Banas Dairy, according to Modi, has proved that resources other than dairy can be utilised to boost local farmers' income. Banas Dairy plans to build a slew of bio-CNG and gobar gas plants across the country, supporting the government's waste-to-wealth initiative.

Through Gobardhan (to manage cattle waste), many objectives are met at the same time:

  • It keeps the villages clean.
  • Cattle farmers get paid for cow dung.
  • Products like bio-CNG and electricity are being prepared from cow dung.
  • Organic manure that is available in this whole process is helping the farmers.

The Banas Dairy has expanded its reach to include dairy producers in states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Jharkhand.

He also laid the foundation stone for four 100-tonne gobar gas plants to be built in four distinct locations.
