Union Minister of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar said on October 20, 2026, that bilateral trade between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has crossed Rs. 9.47 lakh crore (US$ 100 billion) since the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). He was welcoming Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the UAE Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Mumbai. Dr. S. Jaishankar noted the relationship was living up to its promise as a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership after more than a decade of engagement. Despite global headwinds and regional challenges, the economic partnership continues to set new benchmarks. Growing two-way investments reflect the confidence of businesses in each other’s economies. Cooperation in defence, energy and technology is acquiring a strategic character, alongside expanding cultural and people-to-people ties.

Dr. S. Jaishankar expressed concern over the situation in the Gulf and said both countries will continue to work together and support all efforts to promote dialogue and diplomacy. He also reiterated India’s support for the free, safe and unimpeded flow of trade, energy and fertiliser. Describing 2026 as a year of exceptionally intensive leadership-level engagement, he recalled two key engagements. President of the UAE Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited India in January. Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan took part in the AI Impact Summit in February and the 18th BRICS Summit. Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi also made his eighth visit to the UAE in May 2026. Dr. S. Jaishankar thanked the UAE leadership for ensuring the well-being of the Indian community in the country.
