According to the Biden administration, India and the US have agreed to work proactively to address key outstanding bilateral trade issues and to take a holistic look at opportunities to strengthen their trade relationship.
During the first phone call with Indian counterpart, Mr. Piyush Goyal, Minister of Railways, Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs and Food & Public Distribution, the US Trade Representative, Ms. Katherine Tai addressed the two countries' vital trade and investment partnership.
According to a readout of the call released on Thursday by the United States Trade Representative (USTR), “Through the US-India Trade Policy Forum, they agreed to enhance collaboration on shared interests and revitalize interaction. They have agreed to work proactively to address key unresolved bilateral trade problems and take a holistic look at ways to strengthen the trade relationship.”
Ms. Tai emphasised the significance of collaboration on a wide range of topics, including digital trade, intellectual property, agriculture, labor, and climate and environment.
According to the USTR, Ms. Tai and Mr. Goyal agreed to hold the next Trade Policy Forum ministerial meeting in 2021.
