The trade agreement between India and the US, announced recently, is being hailed as a turning point by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Mr. Piyush Goyal, who says that this agreement will unlock unprecedented opportunities for Indian farmers, MSMEs, entrepreneurs, and skilled workers. This agreement will also accelerate technology transfer from the US and will help in the Make in India and Design in India initiatives for the global market. This agreement is part of the overall strategy of the New Delhi government on trade, announced after the Free Trade Agreement between the EU and India, and it repositions India in the world by creating a collaborative environment for innovation and competitiveness. Both Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi and US President Mr. Donald Trump have emphasized that this agreement reflects strategic cooperation between two like-minded democracies for shared prosperity. Made-in-India products are now set to get a more favorable tariff structure, which will help Indian exports in the US and will allow more Indian farmers to enter the high-tech sector.
Industry observers point out that this agreement will help Indian exporters to scale up and that it will get momentum in sectors that were earlier restricted by tariffs. In addition to tariff relaxation, this agreement is also expected to accelerate job creation, supply chain integration, and provide new opportunities for skilled workers to move across borders. This agreement aims to double the trade between the two countries by 2030.
