Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted India’s growing potential to emerge as a trusted global value chain and supply chain partner in electronic manufacturing, driven by strong policy support and leadership. The statement was made during the ground-breaking ceremony of the Google Cloud India AI Hub in Visakhapatnam, in the presence of Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu and other stakeholders. The project, with an estimated investment of Rs. 1.41 lakh Crore (US$ 15 billion), will include a 1 GW hyperscale AI data centre and is being developed in partnership with Adani ConneX and Airtel Nxtra. The Andhra Pradesh government has allocated approximately 600 acres of land for the project, positioning the region as a major digital infrastructure hub.
The statement further emphasised that India has already established itself as a leader in IT services and is rapidly advancing in electronics manufacturing, with mobile phones emerging as one of the country’s top export items and nearly 50% of domestic electronic demand now met through local production. Under the Semiconductor Mission, commercial production has already commenced, further strengthening the ecosystem. The project is expected to transform Visakhapatnam into an ‘AI Patnam’, driving innovation across sectors such as healthcare, education, logistics and agriculture. Industry leaders, including representatives from Google and the Adani Group, noted that the initiative will play a crucial role in India’s digital transformation and contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 by enhancing AI capabilities and global connectivity through subsea cable infrastructure.
