IndiaAI Mission Supports Launch of Indigenous Video Generation AI Model ‘Varya’

Avataar, an AI-native focused company, has launched Varya, an indigenous video-generation AI model developed with support from the IndiaAI Mission, marking a significant step in India’s efforts to build homegrown artificial intelligence capabilities. Unveiled in New Delhi in the presence of MeitY Secretary Mr. S. Krishnan, Varya has been designed to generate culturally relevant video content that reflects India’s diverse regions, languages, festivals, communities and everyday experiences. The model aims to make video creation more accessible for a wide range of users, including educators, MSMEs, content creators and public service providers. Avataar was among the companies selected under the IndiaAI Mission to develop indigenous foundation AI technologies, with access to government-supported national AI compute infrastructure helping accelerate research and development efforts.

As video increasingly becomes a key medium for learning, communication, commerce and storytelling, Varya seeks to address the challenge of affordability in AI-powered video generation. The model uses an advanced distillation technique that reduces the video-generation process from 50 steps to just four while maintaining comparable output quality. Built around the workflow of converting an idea into a video story, the platform enables users to generate and extend videos through simple prompts and images. The company believes Varya demonstrates how efficient, context-aware AI models can expand access to advanced technologies while strengthening India’s position in the global AI innovation ecosystem.
