The Indian Auto LPG Coalition has urged the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) to consider Auto LPG as a fuel option as part of the fuels study being conducted by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). They have pointed out that Auto LPG has been proven to be a clean, low-cost alternative fuel and has been used in many international markets, including India. It should be considered equally with other traditional and alternative fuel options in this current study. The industry representatives have stated that any limit placed on the options analysed by excluding Auto LPG from this study will essentially result in an incomplete analysis of the available fuel options as they pertain to India's transportation sector, considering its energy transition and emissions reduction objectives.
According to the coalition, Auto LPG uses fewer emissions than either conventional petrol or diesel vehicles right away, without needing any substantial modification to the technology used by vehicles already on the road or investing in a large network of infrastructure. It also pointed out that India already has an established Auto LPG distribution network and vehicle conversion ecosystem, making it a readily deployable solution for reducing vehicular emissions and fuel costs for consumers. In the view of the coalition, policymakers who study the initiative led by TERI for Auto LPG will have a better understanding of transitional fuels as they relate to the future of electrification and alternative energy sources. Another argument the coalition presented is that by including Auto LPG in policy studies, it will encourage greater adoption of Auto LPG, support further diversification of transport fuel options, and provide consumers with more choices in the marketplace. The representation to the PNGRB demonstrates the position of the industry that a mix of short, medium, and long-term options for India's clean mobility roadmap should be considered and that short-term options should be prioritised to deliver lower environmental and higher economic benefits while providing energy security and affordability in the transport industry.
