Indian Delegation Visits Vietnam to Open New Opportunities in Silk, Sericulture, Handloom, and Technical Textiles

Senior representatives from India worked together over five days to promote cooperation between India and Vietnam through a high-profile official Indian delegation led by the Central Silk Board under the Ministry of Textiles. Led by Dr. Naresh Babu N., joint secretary (tech.) of the Central Silk Board (CSB), the series of visits to Vietnam concentrated on developing closer relationships between the two countries in sericulture and technical textiles, consistent with the Indian government's emphasis on sustainable development. The Indian delegation encouraged Vietnamese companies to participate in Bharat Tex 2026. They also met with the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) to discuss potential collaborations in product development. The Indian textile industry is valued at US$ 170 billion (Rs 15,42,580 crore), while Vietnamese clothing and textiles are valued at about US$ 46 billion (Rs 4,17,404 crore). The two countries have expressed strong support for building a resilient regional supply chain.
As part of the itinerary, the participants toured the historic Van Phuc Silk Craft Village (Hanoi) and researched how integrated models of weaving and market access can be used as a template for India’s sericulture and tourism programs. They also participated in the Vietnam International Value Chain Exhibition 2026 (VIVC 2026), displaying Indian silk at the event as well as assessing innovative design techniques from Ho Chi Minh City. This engagement has created opportunities for future joint research and technology transfer that connect India’s advantages as a supplier of raw materials with Vietnam's ability to manufacture high-quality product.
