The Indian Commerce and Industry Ministry has prepared a comprehensive strategy to promote Indian millets exports across the globe, starting in December 2022, through its top agricultural export promotion body, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), in order to promote shipment of nutri-cereals.

The International Year of Millets, declared by the UN General Assembly, will be celebrated with full strength in India in 2023. The Indian government has intended to make it easier for exporters, farmers, and traders to participate in 16 international trade expos and Buyer Seller Meets (BSMs).

According to the government's well-thought-out approach, Indian missions abroad will help in branding and publicising Indian millets, identify international chefs, and identify potential customers including department stores, supermarkets, and hypermarkets for setting up B2B meetings and direct partnerships.

By facilitating the participation of various stakeholders from India in some of the essential food shows, buyer seller meets, and roadshows, the APEDA has planned to organise millet promotional activities in South Africa, Dubai, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Sydney, Belgium, Germany, the UK, and the US.

By 2025, the millets market is anticipated to increase from its present market size of over US$ 9 billion to over US$ 12 billion.
