The Indian job market saw a significant recovery in March 2022, after two years of the Covid-19 pandemic, with headcount growth of 18.4% YoY across major industries, led by the travel and hospitality industry. According to payroll distribution data compiled by Allsec Technologies, the travel and hospitality sector, which was the hardest hit by Covid-induced lockdowns over the last two years, saw a robust recovery with a 47.6% increase in payroll headcount in March 2022.

The travel and hotel business, on the other hand, is not yet back to pre-pandemic levels, but it is on the mend. With a 41.5% annual gain in headcount in March 2022, the energy sector trailed closely behind, reaching pre-pandemic levels with a 42% increase.  The IT industry did exceptionally well in March, increasing by 27%, followed by logistics, which increased by 27.3%.  Financial services (16.6%) and food and beverage (12.9%) industries also exhibited positive YoY trends.
