According to worldsteel data, crude steel output in India increased by 46.9% YoY to reach 9.2 million tonnes (MT) in May 2021, as compared to 5.8 MT steel in May 2020.
The industry body stated that the output of the 64 countries under the World Steel Association (worldsteel) stood at 174.4 MT in May 2021, increased by 16.5% YoY.
In May 2021, China led the production market at 99.5 MT, an increase of 6.6% YoY, as compared to 92.3 MT of steel in May 2020.
In May 2021, output from Japan stood at 8.4 MT, as compared to 5.9 MT in May 2020. The production in the US stood at 7.2 MT in May 2021, as compared to 4.8 MT in May 2020. While Russia's output stood at 6.6 MT, South Korea at 6 MT, Germany at 3.5 MT, and Iran at 2.6 MT.
Production from Turkey and Brazil stood at 3.2 MT each in May 2021.
