Mumbai: IndiGo, India’s largest airline by passengers carried, has selected Rockwell Collins Inc.’s advanced avionics systems, including its weather radar and multi-mode receiver, for its Airbus A320neo family of aircraft.

Deliveries for the first 30 confirmed orders will begin later this year.

Rockwell Collins did not disclose the value of the deal. Rockwell Collins, in a statement, said its systems will increase efficiency for IndiGo with better weather decision-making tools and more precise navigation.

IndiGo, run by InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, had placed an order for 250 Airbus A320neo planes for approximately $25 billion. Over and above these 250 planes, IndiGo has purchase rights for 100 more planes. IndiGo had previously placed orders for 280 Airbus aircraft (100 A320ceo and 180 A320neo).

“This agreement is significant because India is a key growth region for Rockwell Collins,” said Jim Walker, vice president and managing director, international and service solutions, Asia Pacific for Rockwell Collins.

IndiGo has also selected the full suite of Rockwell Collins avionics sensors, including the ADF-900 automatic direction finder, DME-2100 distance measuring equipment and other equipment, Rockwell Collins said in a statement.
